Clara Mae Hilberer, 89, of Springfield, died at 5:46 pm, Monday, June 17, 2024 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born December 3, 1934 in Sheffield, IL, the daughter of Russell and Frances Pilger. She married Earl G. Hilberer March 4, 1956 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Beardstown, IL and he preceded her in death August 21, 2013.

Also preceding her in death are her parents; two sisters, Judy Yaeger and Jean Powell and brother, Bill Pilger.

She is survived by two daughters, Pamela Hilberer of Springfield and Patricia “Patty” (Gary) Hampton of Litchfield; three grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Underwood, Joshua (Chrystal) Musgrove and Anthony (Katelyn) Musgrove; four great grandchildren Christopher, Jeremiah and Amelia Underwood and Ricky Williams and one on the way; three brothers, Russell (Sheila) Pilger, Jr. of Peoria, IL, Robert (Phyllis) Pilger of Browning, IL and Steve Pilger of Havana, IL.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She graduated from Beardstown High School in 1952. She absolutely loved working as a bookkeeper. Her first job was a bookkeeper right out of high school and she retired from Denmar Builders after 38 years of service at the age of 85.

She loved to plant and grow flowers, sew, and play Bunco. She was a member of the Ladies Aid at church and enjoyed traveling all over the world, especially Hawaii, Paris, London, and the Bahamas. She loved family gatherings.

Visitation: 5 – 7 pm, Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Friday, June 28, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Reverend Paul Hemenway officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Central Illinois Food Bank or a charity of the donor’s choice.
