Crystal M. Shadid, 94 of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at her daughter’s home. She was born July 13, 1929, in Ft. Wayne, IN, the daughter of Charles and Daisy (Graves) Frank. She graduated from Central High School in Ft. Wayne, IN.

As a young woman, she worked for 3M Corporation in Chicago and then attended flight attendant schooling. While visiting Springfield, she met Woodrow “Woody” J. Shadid and later married on January 20, 1962. She also held a job at Floyd Dean Business Equipment while living in Springfield. Woody owned and operated Shadid’s Book Mart and Crystal became the store’s accountant for 33 years.

She was a devoted Christian and longtime member of Historical Grace Lutheran Church. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary for 67 years. Some of her hobbies included riding a motorcycle, swimming, fishing, boating, gardening, reading and being outdoors.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa (Mike) Koleske of Springfield, IL; son, Woodrow J. (LuAnn) Shadid, Jr. of Jesup, IA; granddaughter, Sara (Jason) Milke of Waverly, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Woody; brother, Victor Frank; and sister, Ella Truesdell.

Visitation: 9:00 – 10:30 am, Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 10:30 am, Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Rev. Dr. Thomas Radtke officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Food Pantry.
