Daun was born on October 2, 1944, to Fritz and Helen (Bridgman) Schone. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Melvin “Bud” Schone and Phyllis Patterson. Daun graduated from Triopia High School in 1962 and then Western Illinois University.
Daun, a proud veteran of the United States Army and loving husband to Barbara, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, at the age of 80, with his loving family at his side.
A man of duty, courage, and quiet strength, Daun served honorably during the Vietnam War, where he demonstrated exceptional dedication to his country under the most challenging of circumstances. His service, marked by integrity and resilience, stands as a testament to a generation that gave so much.
Beyond his military service, Daun was a devoted husband, a loyal friend, and a humble hero. He shared a lifelong partnership with his wife Barbara, whose unwavering support and love were the foundation of their 60 years.
Daun’s legacy of service, loyalty, and love lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughters Beth Prater and Kristen Schone (Thad Rebbe), grandchildren Jacob Parmentier (Kayla), Jessica Parmentier (Brad Carr), and Nicholas Rebbe, and his great-grandchildren Brooks and William.
A private service with military honors will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to Sherman Church of the Nazarene and the Animal Protective League.
He served with honor. He lived with purpose. He will be deeply missed.
