David E. Elder of rural Petersburg, IL died peacefully Sunday night, May 5, 2024, at 9 pm with his wife at his side. Family and friends had also been in attendance in the preceding days and hours.

David was born in E. St. Louis, Illinois on October 28, 1927, the second child of David and Clara Elder. He married Elsie Irene Wheetley in December 1948, and she died in March 1971. He later met Tana Horine and they were married in July 1972.

David is survived by Tana, his wife of nearly 52 years and children, Veronica (Robert) Stearmer, David L. Elder, Patricia Lewis, Steven (Terri) Elder, “Qat” Katherine (Mason) Langelier and Raymond L. Elder, his brother.

Also surviving are 10 grandchildren Matt (Janille) Stearmer, Brian (Leandra) Stearmer, Jon (Laurel) Stearmer, April Elder, Samantha Elder, Mary Ann Bargas (fiance Doug), Becky (Jeremy) Brownfield, Kate Turner, Remi Langelier and Xage Langelier.

16 great grandchildren survive, Conner, Savannah, Tess and Isaac Stearmer, Tyler, Alec and Charlette Stearmer, Rebecca, Ryan, Will and Anne Stearmer, Landon Elder-Cleaver, Sean and Sarah Bargas, Jacob and Stella Brownfield. David is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

David Elder's memorial in Springfield and graveside service in Cobden, IL will be determined as soon as possible.
