Dawn M. Armstrong, 54, of Chatham, died at 9:29 pm, Tuesday, June 2, 2026, in Hillsboro. She was born on August 2, 1971, in Belleville, to George William Brown and Pamela Joy Patterson. She married John Armstrong on June 16, 2005, and he survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Natalie Armstrong of Syracuse, NY and Mara Cunningham of Nashville, TN; one son, Riley (Julia) Cunningham of Warrenville, IL; one granddaughter, Evelyn “Evie” Cunningham; one stepbrother, Craig (Ellie) Lansing of Springfield; one niece, Cailey Lansing, and two nephews, Brenden and Carson Lansing.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Dawn graduated from Chatham Glenwood High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Sangamon State University. After receiving her bachelor’s degree, she continued her education online where she received her two master’s degrees.
She was a US Air Force Veteran. She retired in 2025 as an Elementary School Teacher with District 186 from Southern View Elementary School, after eighteen years of teaching.
She enjoyed camping at Sherwood Forest Campground in Hillsboro and was an active VFW member.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 10 am, Thursday, June 11, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home- Springfield.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
