Dr. John Charlton III 79, of Rochester, died at 9:30 am, Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Taylorville Care Center. He was born July 24, 1944, in Elgin, IL, to John and Ivagene Charlton Jr. He married Barbara Ring and she survives.

Also surviving are nine children, Tamah (Shane) Slater of TX, John (Melisa) Charlton IV of WA, Candice (Andrew) Hargett of TX, Catherine Charlton of Rochester, Lisa (Peter) Young of CA, Lori Ditto of MI, Robert (Llolanda) Stark of Springfield, Kimberly Condon of Pawnee and Stephen (Amy) Condon of Pawnee; fifteen grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; one sister, Rosemary Wishon of Elgin; one step-brother, Brad (Debbie) Hendrix of AZ and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Stephen Stark.

Dr. Charlton was the former pastor of Harvard Park Baptist Church for over twenty-eight years.

Memorial Gathering: 12 – 2 pm, Monday, January 29, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Memorial Service: 2 pm, Monday, January 29, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with Pastor Dan Edwards officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
