Edwin H. Carson, Jr., 83, of Sherman, IL passed away on January 31, 2024 at The Villas Senior Care Community, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Ed was born on February 1, 1940 in Olney, IL, the son of Edwin and Esther Carson.

Ed faithfully served in the military as a member of the U.S. Army from 1958-1961, rising to the rank of Sergeant. After returning home from his tour of duty in Germany, he married Millie “Toodles” Schuchmann on July 8, 1961 in New Holland, IL. Together they built both a house in the country and an extraordinary legacy of love; they were married for 51 years before Millie’s passing in 2012

Despite the pain of losing Millie, Ed was able to find happiness and companionship again in his final years with his second wife, Kathleen Humphres. They were married on August 22, 2015 in Sherman, IL.

Ed had a successful 30 year career at City Water, Light and Power in Springfield, IL. A true illustration of the American Dream, Ed started out sweeping the floors of the coal room and ultimately retired second in command as the Superintendent of Production.

Ed was widely known as a man of God. His unwavering faith and depth of character stood as pillars of strength, providing sound counsel and solace to all who knew him.

Ed was also a family man at heart, cherishing his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with unparalleled love and commitment. He taught them, guided them and doted on them in a way that will leave ripples through generations to come.

Ed found joy in the great outdoors, particularly on the golf course and in the deer stand. He loved his dogs, a hot cup of dark roast coffee (with two Splendas), grilling in the driveway and working in his shed. Ed was a skilled hobby carpenter and created countless heirloom pieces for family and friends. If you are lucky enough to have one of Ed’s woodshop creations, you know they are built to last.

Ed is survived by his second wife, Kathleen Carson of Sherman, IL; brother, Larry (Patsy) Carson of St. Augustine, FL; sister, Nancy Landers of Bloomington, IL; daughters, Cathy (Scott) Siders of Sherman, IL and Cheryl (Jon) Tadsen of Pawnee, IL; nine grandchildren, David (Jessica), Nick (Bekah) and Amber Arnold; Andy (Tricia) Siders, Lindsey Siders, Jessica (Cody) Bounds and Kaitlyn Siders; Madeline and Brendan (Justine) Mier; six great-grandchildren, Kaylee Arnold; Tucker Bounds; Waylon Bounds; Finley Arnold; Mia Siders and Penelope Mier; four stepchildren and many members of a blended and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Millie Carson; daughter, Cindy Arnold; and brother, Noah Carson.

A visitation will be held from 10:30 am until time of the funeral service at 12:30 pm, Monday, February 5, 2024 at Living Faith Baptist Church in Sherman, IL with Pastor Mark Emerson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting The American Diabetes Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, both causes that were near to Ed’s heart.
