Elmer L. Wardell, 74, of Buffalo, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at his home. He was born June 30, 1949, in Ashland, the son of Elmer and Mildred (Farmer) Wardell. He married Roxanna “Roxy” M. Griffitts in April 1983, and she survives.

Also surviving are his four children: Tracy Wardell of Acworth, GA, Bryan (fiancée, Angela Hastings) Schleyhahn of Springfield, Chrissy (Brad) Szoke of Spaulding, and Jodi Schleyhahn of Buffalo; four grandchildren: Bradley Szoke, Rylee Szoke, Annaliese Hastings, and Ethan Smith; two brothers: Roger (Sharon) Wardell of Virginia Beach, VA and Henry (Sherri) Dugger of Divernon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Billy Dugger, Jr. and Jeannie Mastice.

Elmer was a resident in Buffalo for 32 years and retired from Trotter’s Manufacturing in Buffalo.

He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran.

Elmer was an avid Cubs fan and loved watching his grandkids play sports.


Graveside Service: 1 pm, Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Pastor David Gessaman officiating. Military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
