Evelyn N. (Nihiser) White, 101, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at her home. She was born February 19, 1920, in Dalton City, the daughter of Harrison and Oma (Underwood) Nihiser. She married Reverend Kenneth H. White on December 19, 1940 and he preceded her in death on November 12, 1984.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Kathleen Mae White and Tandra White Jennings; son, Kenneth F. White; great-grandchildren, Owen Michael Fouts and Gabriel Walters; three sisters, Marie Morris, Helen Moffitt and Effie Mae Boyer; and two brothers, Edward and Lloyd Nihiser.
Survivors include three daughters Kristine Y. White of Springfield, Marie I. (Tommy) Walters of Dawson and Marsha S. (Ron) Jett of Springfield; son, Benjamin L. (Marsha) White of Springfield; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Sue White; son-in-law, Jim Jennings II; numerous adopted family members and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Evelyn lived in Springfield, Illinois for 40 plus years. She worked for District 186 and the Secretary of State’s office for the State of Illinois for 13 years. She also provided for her family as a homemaker. Evelyn belonged to Eastview Baptist Church. She was tutor for Lawrence Adult Learning Center and Eastview Baptist Church.
Visitation: 2 – 4 pm, Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Monday, November 22, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with Pastor Bennie Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sangamon County Community Foundation for the Rev. Kenneth and Evelyn N. White Family Scholarship Fund.
