Frank Joseph Blahofski Jr., 92, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Reflections Memory Care in Chatham. He was born February 29, 1932, the son of Frank J. Sr. and Rose Kamnick Blahofski. He married his high school sweetheart Judith Ann Richardson on September 18, 1954, and she survives.
Also surviving is his daughter, Rebecca “Becky” (John) Glazier of Chatham; son, Dennis “Denny” (Tina) of Weston Lakes, TX; four grandchildren, Christopher Wells, Alyssa Glazier, Melissa (Joseph) Trupia and Mindy Rees; six great grandchildren: Carmody Fulks, Lewis and Will Rees, Joseph, Leo, and Margaret Trupia; sister, Betty Woodrum of Rushville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Rose Marie Blahofski; one son, David Blahofski; one brother, John Blahofski and one nephew, John Blahofski, Jr.
Frank served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army with the 518th Signal Corp during the Korean War.
Frank was a graduate of Feitshans High School, Class of 1951, and played baseball, basketball, and football. One memorable football game, Frank, aka “Horse,” punted the football, caught his own punt and ran for a touchdown. He was a stationary engineer for the State of Illinois and retired in 1991 after 32 years of dedication. Frank was a member of the Chatham United Methodist Church, Chatham American Legion, VFW, Korean War Veterans Association, and the Eagles Club. He loved fishing, hunting, bowling, playing bocce ball, horseshoes, cornhole, and pulling pranks on just about anyone. He was a long-time avid Cubs Fan and was so happy to see them win the World Series in 2016. Frank will be deeply missed along with all his life stories he loved to share.
Visitation: 10:00 am – 11:30 am, Friday, November 22, 2024 at Chatham United Methodist Church.
Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Friday, November 22, 2024 at Chatham United Methodist Church with Reverend Miriam Snider Officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park where military honors will be conducted.
