Frank” D. Sprague, 66, of Springfield, passed away Friday, June 6, 2025. He was born June 13, 1958, in Monmouth, IL, son of Franklin D. Sprague Sr. and Helen Stice. He married the love of his life, Frani June Shanks, on November 6, 2004, and she survives.

He is also survived by his daughter, Catherine Johnson of Springfield; sons, Zachary (Marissa Jessica) Slater of Kincaid and Kristopher Slater of Springfield; grandchildren, MyKia Slater, Melanie Saltis, Cloe Saltis, Lily Johnson, Colby Johnson, Angel Turner, Jeremiah Johnson, Zachary Slater II, Ayden Slater, Keyson Slater, and Nova Slater; brother, Mike Sprague; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jimmy Sprague and David Sprague; and sisters, Molly Marshall and Mary Smith.

He was a resident of Taylorville until he moved to Springfield in 2005. Frank served in the U.S. Army. He was a grain bin driver at Mazier Bro., a tow truck driver, and eventually retired after 15 years as a truck driver at Curry Ice and Cole.

In retirement, he enjoyed his favorite hobbies. He loved grilling and being outside doing yardwork. However, his favorite thing was playing with his grandchildren and spending time with family.

Graveside: 2 pm, Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors.
