Gary R. Smith, 57 of Springfield, passed on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at his home. He was born December 29, 1964 in Springfield, to Anthony M. and Doris A. Wade Smith.

Survivors include three daughters, Katelyn (Lucas McCoskey) Smith of St. Louis, MO, Kassidy Smith and Savannah Smith both of Springfield; one son, Shelby (Lauren Albert) Smith of Springfield; one sister Alice (Stephen) Kelly of Springfield; three brothers, Joseph Smith of Riverton, Charles “Brian” Smith and Michael A. Smith both of Springfield; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins; the mother of his children, Shannon McAllister and his beloved German Shepherd, Cheyenne.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Anthony “Tony” and Andrew Smith.

Mr. Smith was an avid NASCAR fan; he enjoyed the Chicago Cubs and Fighting Illini. His pride and joy was his 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1.

He was owner of Smith General Contracting, Inc. and proudly served Central Illinois for more than 30 years.

Visitation: 4-7 pm, Monday, September 12, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 11 am, Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pentecost Tabernacle Church.
