Glenn Edward Hopkins, 89, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at his home. He was born June 15, 1936, in rural Bowling Green, MO, to Roswell and Lillian (Curry) Hopkins. He married Dawnn M. (Kirkendoll) Hopkins on June 7, 1996, and she survives.
Also surviving are his son, Gary Gene (wife, Melissa) Hopkins of Athens; daughter, Glenda Kay (husband, Eugene) Long, of San Antonio, TX; son-in-law, Melvin Tyndall and his two children: grandson, Keith Tyndall and granddaughter, Heather Tyndall, both of San Antonio, TX; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and his beloved chihuahua, Maisie Grace.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Eugene and Billy James Hopkins; four sisters, Virginia Elizabeth Ulrich, Mary Darline Pierson, Marjorie Ann Fletcher, and Carol Sue Echelberry. He was also preceded in death by two of his four children: daughter, Gayleen Rae Tyndall and son, Glenn Joseph Hopkins and daughter-in-law, Cindy (wife, of Glenn Joseph).
Glenn was a graduate of the Buckner Hollow one room school, the same as his brothers and sisters which was the same school his mom, dad and many of his aunts, uncles and cousins attended.
He was a United States Air Force veteran. He spent two tours overseas, first in Hawaii and Kwajalein. The second tour was in Alaska, where he was stationed when it became a state. He was one of many that helped keep the Sac Air Command in constant contact with the bombers during the cold war.
For many years he was the Chief Engineer of WTAX/WDBR. He operated Hopkins Technical Service for over forty years and worked with Covenant network for more than twenty years. He was active in the Radio Technical Field for over sixty-five years including over fifty-five years in the Broadcast Technical Field.
Graveside Service: 11:00 am, Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Air Force honors will be conducted.
