Gregory Mark Campbell passed away on May 6, 2025, at the age of 72. He was born on September 9, 1952, in Springfield, IL, to Earl Ray Campbell and Helen Elizabeth Nevens.
He is survived by his daughter, Stacy Jean Campbell-Viamontes of Chicago and his children of the heart, “daughter” Krisinda (Troy) Groth of Springfield and “son”, Jacob Aldridge of Mechanicsburg; and his grandchildren, George Michael Viamontes, Ambir (Jordan) Keen, Kadi (Thomas) Ruggere, Kihle (Kieley) Hendricker, Kamden Aldridge and Chloe Aldridge. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Mayley and Braxton, who brought him immense joy in his later years.
He is also survived by his sister, Ann Forrler of Springfield, and his brothers, Gerry Campbell of Columbus, OH, and Grant Campbell of Fort Worth, TX, along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and cousins. He will also be greatly missed by his many friends, whom he loved dearly and his best friend Lisa Seiler.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his significant other, Kathy Hendricker, with whom he shared many of life's most treasured moments.
Greg was a proud graduate of Griffin High School, class of 1970. After high school he worked for IBM and Graham, O’Shea and Wisnosky Architects. He went on to become a skilled electrician, working with various businesses throughout his career (mostly Anderson Electric). He was a member of IBEW Local #193 from 8/15/75 until his death.
In his younger days he enjoyed playing rugby. His adventurous spirit led him to explore the great outdoors, where he found joy in hunting deer, moose, elk, turkey, and many other game. He was very proud of his trophies covering the walls of his home. Fishing was another passion of his, and he often recounted tales of his travels across the country and Canada.
Greg was of the Catholic faith. His life was a testament to the power of positivity and the impact one individual can have on the lives of many.
Memorial Gathering: 9:00 am - 11:00 am, Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Christ the King Church, 1930 Barberry Drive, Springfield.
Memorial Mass: 11:15 am, Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Christ the King Church with Very Rev. Christopher House as Celebrant, Msgr. Michael Kuse, and Rev. Alex McCullough, concelebrating. A luncheon will immediately follow the funeral Mass at the CTK Parish Center.
