Hamilton Imus Jones passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024. He was born on August 2, 1927, in Los Angeles, California, to William Hamilton and Louise Imus Jones.

When he was 12 years old, the family moved to Waverly, Illinois, to care for the family farm. He took great pride in being a descendant of one of Waverly’s original farmland owners, Hezekiah C. Hamilton.

Ham graduated from Waverly High School in 1945 and enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in World War II and later in the Korean Conflict. He attended Bradley University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering in 1951. He was proud to be a charter member of Bradley’s Gamma Upsilon Chapter of the Theta Chi Fraternity. On April 28, 1951, he married Juanita Mae Krueger in Springfield, Illinois and they enjoyed 71 years of marriage.

He was employed as a civil engineer at the Sangamon County Highway Department for many years. After retiring, he managed the family farm. Ham served as a Woodside Township precinct committeeman for many years and as the Woodside Township Clerk.

His family was most important to Hamilton, and he was a strong and supportive husband and father. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family in Naples, FL, Parkman, WY, and Los Angeles, CA. Riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles with friends was a favorite pastime, and he enjoyed the camaraderie of South Dakota hunting trips. An avid reader, he relished the countless conversations over the years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Springfield Art Association, Springfield Motor Boat Club, Ducks Unlimited, and Springfield American Legion Post No. 32.

He is survived by his daughter Deborah J. and her husband, Robert E. Sidener, Jr.; his son-in-law, Matthew L. Hylton; three grandchildren, Robert H. Sidener, Kellie E. and her husband, Rashid A. Bibb, and Lucy M. Hylton; five great-grandchildren, Russell, Jessica, Josiah, Camryn, and Kyson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Juanita, his daughter Sherrie L. Hylton, and his grandson Christopher D. Hylton.

Private family services were held with Pastor Joshua Traxel officiating, followed by burial at Waverly East Cemetery in Morgan County.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 2645 Old Jacksonville Rd., Springfield, IL 62704.

The family is being served by Staab Funeral Home, 1109 So. Fifth St., Springfield, IL 62703.
