Harold Louis Tengler, Jr., 76, of Southern View, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 6, 1947 in Springfield to Harold L. and Helen Emma Cycholl Tengler. He married Sharon Winner on September 18, 1971 and she survives.

Also surviving Harold are his two children, Stacy (Jimmy) Stoppelwerth of Riverton and Chad (Catherine) Tengler of Springfield; one grandchild, Kate Stoppelwerth; one great-grandchild, Davis; one sister, Arlene (David) Grubb of Rochester; nieces, Courtney and Erica; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Harold was a lifelong resident of Springfield and a 1965 graduate of Springfield High School. He served our country in the United States Navy from 1966 – 1970.

After his service with the Navy, he became a licensed barber. He then came across a security job at SIU School of Medicine and retired from there as the Director of Security with over 25 years of service. In addition to his security experience, he became a master locksmith. He loved his family dearly, and especially loved his dogs, Maggie and Bingo.

Visitation: 9:30 am – 11:30 am, Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Jim Stoppelwerth officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler

National Cemetery with military honors being conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Sangamon County Animal Control.
