Helen “H” Louise Harmony, 88, of Springfield, IL, passed away on June 1, 2026, in Auburn, IL. She was born on November 21, 1937, in Mattoon, IL, and lived a life marked by generosity, optimism, and love for her family and community.
Helen was a lifelong resident of Springfield, IL and a proud graduate of Feitshans High School. She carried with her the values of hard work and perseverance from an early age. As a young girl, she began working at her family’s business, Homeier’s Dairy, and her father taught her to drive a milk truck when she was just 14 years old. Those early experiences helped shape the strong, capable woman she became and reflected the determination that would guide her throughout her life.
Along with her husband, Ben, Helen owned and operated Harmony’s Upholstery for more than 50 years. She took great pride in the work they built together, stripping furniture and using her remarkable sewing skills to help make the business a success. She was also known for her “fun” job as a teller at the Capitol Teletrack-Off Track Betting, where she enjoyed her work and formed many lifelong friendships. Helen approached every role with dedication and warmth, and she was admired for the care she gave to everything she did.
Helen was a devoted member of the International Social and Cultural Sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, and she found joy in welcoming others through The Experiment in International Living. She hosted many international students over the years and loved sharing the American way of life with them. Her kindness and hospitality left a lasting impression on all who knew her, and she treasured the friendships and memories that grew from those experiences.
At home, Helen found happiness in the simple and beautiful things in life. She loved being in the yard and tending to her garden, strawberry and black raspberry patches, fruit trees, grape vines, and the many beautifully kept ponds surrounded by berms filled with a variety of flowers.
An ever busy baker, she found joy in filling their home with the aroma of scratch-made delights. From her signature, decadent Texas Sheet Cake and perfectly tart lemon bars to her moist strawberry bread and carefully crafted homemade jams and jellies, every creation was a labor of love shared with family and friends.
She also enjoyed trying her luck at gambling, especially horse racing, the slots, and always KENO. In her spare time, she could often be found playing the Cherry Bonus Machine in her family room, a pastime that brought her enjoyment in her downtime.
Helen is survived by her sons, Faron Harmony, James “Jimmy” Harmony, and Jarrell “Jay” (Shayna) Harmony; twelve grandchildren, Brandi Neal, Dustin (Paul Staab III) Harmony, Jadlyn (Dusty) Harmony-Morris, Jessica (Tyler Witty) Harmony, Jordyn Rubin, Skyler Harmony, Beni Harmony, Victoria “Tori” Harmony, Parker Harmony, Jonathan Brasche, Faron Harmony, and Kadyn Harmony; six great-grandchildren, Charlie, Hank, Leila, and Jack Morris, Ash and Elmyra Witty; her brother, Chris (Dorothy) Homeier III; her daughter-in-law, Kimberly Jacobs-Harmony; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Christ Homeier and Lena Kupisch Homeier; her husband of more than 60 years, Benjamin “Ben” Franklin Harmony; her son, Benny Harmony; her brothers, William, Walter, and John Homeier; and her beloved sister, Maryann Homeier Ream-Carnes.
Helen will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Her generous spirit, optimistic outlook, and loving heart touched many lives, and her memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
“BYESY BYE!”
Private services will be held for Helen and she will be laid to rest with her husband at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
