James L. Aebel (Jim) 76, of Sherman, died on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born November 9, 1947 in Springfield, to Victor L. and Agnes W. Gartlan Aebel. He married his high school sweetheart, Caryl J. Drennan on June 24, 1967, and she survives.
Also surviving are his daughter Kathy (Scott) Aebel-Groesch of Webster Groves, MO; daughter-in-law, Shawn Aebel of Riverton; five grandchildren, Alex (Anne) Groesch; Erin (Trevor) Birdsell, Andrew Groesch, Michael Dean (Tory) Aebel and Anna Groesch; four great grandchildren, Ross, Renlee, Violet and Scarlet; three siblings, Donna (Charles) Dodge, Tom (Jade) Aebel and Mary Aebel; several nieces, nephews and cousins and his beloved dog, Katie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael Aebel; one sister, Margaret Aebel; his in-laws, John and Laura Drennan; brother-in-law, Bill Drennan and sister-in-law, Sandra Drennan.
Jim was a US Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War.
He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as an interlocking control operator/leverman and customer service representative for forty-two years and served as treasurer of the Union.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and taxidermy. He was a member of VFW Post #1032.
Jim had many friends who enjoyed his lively sense of humor. He was a wonderful man who loved his family.

Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with his friend, Bob Stromberg officiating.
