James R. Stone, 48, of Springfield, IL, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at his home. He was born on March 31, 1976 in Decatur, IL, to Patricia Horn and she preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Leslie Stone.

James is survived by his son, Dylan (Jordan) Stone of Taylorville, IL; grandson, Leo Stone; sister, Erin Emmett of Williamsville, IL; and a niece, Madison Knowles.

James was a graduate of Taylorville High School. Following high school, he enlisted with the Army and served at Ft. Campbell in Kentucky. He was proud to serve with the 101st Airborne Division and the 2-502nd Infantry Regiment.

He worked for the IL Environmental Protection Agency as a project manager since 2018.

His family meant everything to him and was blessed with a grandson that he adored.

Cremation is being arranged by Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Memorial Gathering: 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, with military honors being conducted at 7:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the family for Leo Stone’s Education.
