James R. "Jim Bob" Young, 86 of Springfield, died at 10:22 pm, Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Heritage Health, surrounded by family. He was born July 13, 1931 in Springfield, to Frank A. and Marie Beck Young. He married Cindy Lou Baldock on February 6, 1954 and she preceded him in death on July 9, 2007.


Survivors include, companion, Marlene Carraro of Springfield; one daughter, Chris (Norman) Wiseman of Athens; three sons, James D. "J.D." (Marilyn) Young of Girard, Alan D (Vicki) Young of Tucson, AZ and Terry (Jane) Young of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Norm, Andy and Melissa Wiseman, Angie Cary, Matt Wiseman, Nicole Dierking, Joe Young, Hannah Gilman and Sarah Young; sixteen great grandchildren; one sister, Jean McNish of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sisters, Clara Schleyhahn and Mary Brunk and one brother, Frank "Bud" Young. Jim was a US Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of the VFW; American Legion and Eagles. He worked for Sangamo Electric and was owner of Young's Cleaning Service. Jim was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan, loved fishing and playing cards with his buddies.

He loved and was proud of his family.


Visitation: 4 - 7 pm, Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home - Springfield.
Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home - Springfield with Reverend Braden Maher officiating. Burial will follow at Joe Brunk Cemetery, where Military Honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
