Jennie Darlene (Moriconi) Likens, 82, passed away at 6:18 am, Monday, December 2, 2024 at Springfield Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.
Jennie was born October 20, 1942 in Springfield, the daughter of Italian immigrants, Aurelio "Frank" Moriconi and Rose Saccaro. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bob "Red" Likens, half-siblings, Robert "Bob" Moriconi and Carolyn Galassi Cervellone, and her best friend Dona Hornstein.
Jennie grew up in Springfield, attending Harvard Park and Feitshens High School, where she graduated in 1961. She married Robert "Bob" Longen in 1961 and Bob Likens in 1970. Jennie and her family were greatly involved in the bar business of Springfield. She owned Curley's and was part-owner of The Alibi Lounge and The Circus Circus Lounge. She also worked at Cheers, Guitars and Cadillacs, and Koo Koo's Nest. Jennie was well-known in Springfield and had a number of friends and family who loved her. She was admired for her delicious cooking, generous attitude and no-nonsense Italian spirit.
Jennie had an eventful life. She was a skilled poker player, at times playing alongside celebrities in competitions. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and showed respect and kindness to everyone around her. She was a familiar face to so many in town. She will be greatly missed by her family and all those who she touched in the community.
Jennie passed leaving behind a daughter, Cytree (Bill) Shomidie, grandchildren, Megan, Kelsey, and Dylan, and great-granddaughter, Journey Shomidie, all of Springfield. She also leaves behind one brother, Frank Moriconi, of San Francisco, CA and sister-in-law, Barb Moriconi, of Springfield, several nieces and nephews, and many many friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 21st at 2:00 pm at Staab Funeral Home - Springfield.
A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following the memorial service at the Stockyards Saloon.
Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jennie's honor to Wooden It Be Lovely located at 501 South Douglas Avenue in Springfield.
