erome “Jerry” E. Michaud, 87, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born April 4, 1937, in St. Paul, MN, the son of John B. and Delilah M. (Hasley) Michaud. He married Louise E. Kemper in Aschaffenburg, Germany on April 18, 1959, beginning a lifelong commitment that flourished into 65 devoted years.

Survivors include his daughter, Annette E. (Christopher) Young of Springfield; three sons, Thomas J. (Danette) Michaud of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Jerome M. (Cindy) Michaud of Cedar Park, TX, and David A. (Michelle) Michaud of Crystal City, MO; nine grandchildren, Christina Spa, Tony (Ashleigh) Spa, Michael (Anna) Michaud, Emily (Justin) Meilstrup, Jeffrey Michaud, Steven Michaud, Austin Spa, Sophia Michaud, and Jack Michaud; eight great-grandchildren, Zachary, Kaitlyn, Haleigh, William, Amarhi, Ava, Eloise, and Archer; two siblings, Thomas P. (Mary Jane) Michaud of Savage, MN and Dianne (Tom) Ryan of Blaine, MN; and a multitude of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and five siblings, Jackie Wallin, John Michaud, Jim Michaud, Honey Robinson, and Jeanette Marthaler.

Jerry lived a life filled with service, community, and love for his family. A proud graduate of Humboldt Senior High School, he went on to serve his country as a heavy equipment operator in the United States Army. Jerry was deeply rooted in his community, belonging to St. Agnes Catholic Church and serving as a member of the chamber of commerce in both Rochester, MN, and Springfield, IL, with Mayor Mike Houston, where he lived for 47 years. He was a respected and popular leader, holding roles as president and treasurer of D.A.N.K., the German American National Congress. With a passion for sports, Jerry coached little league baseball, cheered on the Minnesota Twins & Vikings, and enjoyed golfing and fishing. His professional career in retail management was marked by notable achievements, including helping to open Myer’s Bros and Donaldson’s department stores and JC Penny stores. Jerry's dedication to public service extended to his role as a delegate for President Nixon. But most of all, he cherished time spent with his loved ones and will be deeply missed by his family, who were the center of his life.

Visitation: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, Thursday, January 16, 2025, at St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Funeral Mass: 12:00 pm, Thursday, January 16, 2025, at St. Agnes Catholic Church with Very Rev. Daniel J. Bergbower officiating. A burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Breakthrough T1D (Juvenile Diabetes); Autism Speaks; or to St. Agnes Catholic Church.
