Jerry D. Yeley, Jr., 60 of Springfield, died at 9:51 am, Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. He was born August 27, 1965, in Hannibal, MO, the son of Jerry D. and Kathryn Yeley, Sr.
Survivors include, his mother, Kathryn Howard of Springfield; three children, Abigail (Matt) Greenleaf of Springfield, Joshua (Carissa) Yeley of Riverton and Allison Yeley of Sherman; one grandchild, Augustin Greenleaf; four brothers, Joseph (Desirea) Yeley of Springfield, Robert Yeley of Springfield, Samuel (Jodi) Howard of Roswell, GA and Hershel Yeley of Granite City, IL and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Jerry was a US Navy veteran. He loved working as a truck driver. And, he was wonderful at giving highway directions to lost family and friends. He was very proud of his children and loved playing games with them. He was a member of the Navy Club of Sangamon Ship #32. He was a great history lover. He was quite jovial and loved telling jokes, as well as being a great singer and debater. In his childhood, he was a talented equestrian rider and participated hunting and jumping competitions.
Visitation: 8:30 – 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Sacred Heart Church with Reverend Jim Isaacson officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Veteran’s Assistance Commission or St. Katharine Drexel Parish or for masses in memory of Jerry.
