Joan E. Middaugh, 90, of Sherman, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at the Villa Senior Care East. Joan was born in Joliet, IL on August 4, 1934, the daughter of John and Angela (Likovic) Knudtson. She married the love of her life, Raymond J. Middaugh on November 22, 1969, and he preceded her in death on November 28, 2018.

Joan is survived by her children: Catherine (Joe) Inendino of Sherman, IL, Susan Terry of Haleyville, AL, Mary (Ron) Strohman of Clear Lake, MN, Randy Middaugh of Bloomington, IL, and Sandra (Rich) Kuznik of Bloomington, IL; twelve grandchildren, Matthew Carnaghi, Michelle Sullivan, Joseph (Kristin Wagner) Inendino, Erica (Ryan) Menze, Patrick (Elizabeth) DeLay, Dr. Ashley (Casey) Zeng, Benjamin Strohman, Amy (Seth Wheeler) Strohman, Carrie (Antonio) Esparza, Randy (Nichole) Middaugh, Jr., Rick (Kristy) Kuznik, and DeeDee (Cain) Guarraro; fourteen great-grandchildren, Dakota, Denver, and Christian Carnaghi, Archer Wheeler, Victoria (Anthony) Lush, Lennon and Harrison Middaugh, Austin, Calleigh, Dominik, and Brayden Kuznik, Alex, Jaxon, and Isabella Guarraro; two great-great-grandchildren, Emerson and Easton Lush; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Richard Carnaghi; granddaughter, Cheree Middaugh; brother, Jackie Knudtson; stepmother, Grace Knudtson; beloved sisters, Phyllis Keca, Doris Kaps, and Annabelle Freberg whom she shared a special bond.

She worked many years before retirement for the IL State Police and was a manager of the Computerized Criminal History department.

Joan was a dedicated member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church for many years. Joan had the gift of hospitality and was happiest when she was able to feed all. She was an avid baker and took great joy in sharing her talent with family, friends, and neighbors. Some of her notable baked goods were pecan tassies, fudge, and caramel corn. Above all, she truly loved spending time with her family, especially her numerous grandchildren.

Visitation: 10:00 – 12:00 pm, Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman.

Funeral Mass: 12:30 pm, Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church with Very Rev. Daniel J. Bergbower officiating. Cremation will be arranged following the funeral mass.

Graveside Service: 10:00 am, Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Sparc - Springfield, IL.
