Joanne E. Singh, 79, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. She was born April 12, 1945, in Santa Ana, CA, the daughter of Robert and Evelyn (Hilgenfield) Farrar. She married Dr. Silas P. Singh on March 23, 1969, and he preceded her in death on November 9, 2002.

She is also preceded in death by her parents and infant son, Pratap.

Survivors include her daughter, Rachael Proulx of Chicago; son, Raj Singh of Springfield; two grandchildren, Pudina and Kaj Singh both of Springfield; sister-in-law, Katherine “Shelia” Singh of Springfield; two brothers, Stanley (Judith) Farrar and Jim Farrar both of California and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Growing up in California, Joanne took dance for 15 years and sang in the church choir for 10 years. She received her bachelor’s degree from Nazarene College in Pasadena, CA. She belonged to Springfield 1st Church of the Nazarene, in Springfield where she volunteered with the Caravan Program. She also belonged to Christian Women’s Connection and volunteered with other various programs.

Joanne was an elementary school teacher in Tamaroa and Elkville, IL and was a substitute teacher for District #186. She worked in retail at J.C. Penny’s and retired from the State of Illinois, Disability Claims Department after 18 years of service.

Visitation: 2 pm – 5 pm, Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 11 am, Monday, November 18, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Ben Alexander officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Springfield 1st Church of the Nazarene, AIDS Foundation, or American Lung Association.
