Karen Paula Escobar, 67, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at her home. She was born July 31, 1956, in New York City, NY, the daughter of Santos and Marie (Colon) Tomei and they preceded her in death. She met Edwin Escobar in Bronx, NY and they later married on May 15, 1976 and lived in Brooklyn-Bethel, NY.

Surviving Karen is her husband, Edwin; son, Jonathan Edwin (Natasha) Escobar of Peoria; two brothers, Santos (Dorothy) Tomei of New Jersey and James (Michelle) Tomei of South Carolina; and two nephews, Jeremy Tomei and Nicholas Tomei.

Before settling in Springfield, Karen resided in Eldorado, KS, Hagerstown, MD, Geneseo, IL and Teaneck, NJ. She was an active pioneer of the Jehovah’s Witnesses since 18 and served across the country.

Karen was a fantastic wife and mother who deeply loved her family. She truly enjoyed meeting new people. Karen had a profound passion for crafting and writing poetry.

The family will host a Celebration of Life at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses – N. Springfield.
