Kathleen (Coons) Giacomini, 76, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at home.

She was born on September 28, 1948, to Joseph E. and Frances S. (Shidlauski) Coons and they preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Joseph L. Coons.

Kathy graduated with honors from both Ursuline Academy and the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana.

She married her husband of 55 years, John J. Giacomini, on August 30, 1969, while they were still in college. After graduation they moved to Prospect Heights, IL where they lived for a couple years before returning to Springfield.

As a teacher at St. Aloysius Grade School, Kathy impacted hundreds of lives for the better. She could often be found helping students before and after school hours, leading speech club and spelling bee activities, and spending her own money to supplement her classroom with books to inspire her kids.

Kathy was a voracious reader - especially of historical fiction, a trivia and crossword puzzle master, and an avid pinner on Pinterest. Later in life she crocheted over 100 blankets (of the exact same pattern), enjoyed watching Homicide Hunter, and prayed the rosary daily. She kept in close contact with the same group of friends from grade school and cherished spending time with her grandchildren.

Kathy was a devoted and loving mother to her two children, Alexa and Luke, pouring her heart into their upbringing and well-being. She was an excellent mother, always prioritizing her family and ensuring they felt cherished and supported. Kathleen dedicated countless hours to their care, preparing home-cooked meals with love, ensuring they never missed a moment of their extracurricular activities, and even rising at 5:00 a.m. to assist her son with his paper route. Her selfless acts and unwavering dedication to her children left a profound mark on their lives. Kathy will be deeply missed by her family on earth, whose hearts will forever carry the love and care she so generously gave.

She is survived by her loving husband, John; her children, Alexa Giacomini and Luke (Kristy) Giacomini; grandchildren, Gemma and Jensen; sisters, JoAnn (Tom) Bailey and Rosemary (Tracy) Harrison; and other beloved family members.
