Kurt M. Koepke, 64, of Springfield, IL passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Marco Island, Florida. He was born on July 29, 1961, in Prairie du Chien, WI, and moved to Dixon, IL in 1973. He was the son of Robert and Audrey Shurr Koepke. He married Sandra Hann in 1986 and she survives.
In addition to his wife Sandra, he is survived by two daughters, Natalie (William) Bailey of Dallas, TX, and Abby (Benjamin) Streepey of Elmhurst, IL; grandchildren, Chloe and Dillon Bailey and Clarke Streepey; mother-in-law, Shirley Hann; siblings, Robert (Debbie) Koepke, Nancy (Bob) Wagler, James (Sabrina) Koepke, and Thomas (Jayne) Koepke. He is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Sinclair Streepey; his mother, Audrey Koepke; his father, Robert Koepke; and his father-in-law, Stanley Hann.
Kurt attended Lincoln School and Dixon High School. He graduated from Western Illinois University and Southern Illinois University School of Law. During Law school he was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award in Torts and an assistantship with the Dean of Admissions. After law school, he and Sandy moved to Springfield, IL where he practiced law for thirty-eight years.
Kurt was a skilled and well-respected trial lawyer, having taken over 150 jury trials to verdict in circuit courts throughout Central Illinois. His law practice also included appellate courts and the Illinois Supreme Court.
Kurt was a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Sangamon County Bar Association. He was a long-time member of the Illinois Defense Counsel, and the Central Illinois Adjusters Association.
Kurt was an avid outdoorsman and Green Bay Packer fan. He shared his love of the outdoors with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and boating. His daughters enjoyed early morning fishing trips, toad hunts, and tackle box nights with him. His family loved boating together on Lake Springfield in the summers. He was a proud father and grandfather (also known as “Pops”).
Visitation: 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Rev. Zachary Samples officiating.
Memorial contributions in Kurt’s name can be made to the Jackson Chance Foundation, 1953 N. Clybourn, Suite 311, Chicago, IL 60614, which eases costs for families with children in the NICU at Lurie Children’s Hospital and Prentice Women’s Hospital in Chicago, IL.
