Lawrence “Larry” Forbes, Sr. 82, of Springfield, died at 8:52, pm, Sunday, January 12, 2025, at St. John’s Hospital. He was born November 8, 1942, in Springfield, to Rolland H. and Mary Frances Rapps Forbes.

He is survived by his Fiancé, Mary Kurfman of Divernon; three sons, Lawrence Forbes, Jr., Patrick Forbes, and Christopher Forbes all of Springfield; Mary’s children, Pastor Charles (Amy) Kurfman of Highland, Alisa (Jerome) Patrick of Hannibal, MO, and Justin (Stephanie) Kurfman of Auburn; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one brother, Richard (Sheva) Forbes of Glenarm and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Rolland and Donald Forbes.

Larry was a lifelong Notre Dame and Fighting Illini Fan and loved sports. He was a member of St. Aloysius Church.

He attended grade and middle school in Mattoon, IL and graduated from high school in Robinson, IL. He graduated from Springfield College in Illinois and received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.

He retired from the State of Illinois after thirty-two years of service with the Department of Rehabilitation Services as a Disability Claims Adjuster.

Visitation: 4-7 pm, Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 pm.

Funeral Mass: 10 am, Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at St. Aloysius Church with Reverend Sajimon Kuriakose officiating. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Aloysius Church.
