Lorine “Lu” Capranica Rose, 83, of Sherman, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Villa Senior Care Community in Sherman. She was born on December 25, 1940, in Springfield, IL, to Gennaro Capranica and Nunzia Rose Antonacci of Calascio, Italy. She married Donald Joseph Rose on May 8, 1965, at St. Aloysius Church in Springfield, and he preceded her in death on September 29, 2007.
Also preceding her in death are her parents and her three sisters: Pasqualina A. Capranica McLerren (Charlie), Josephine Capranica McLerren (George), and Mary A. Capranica Hobbs (Fred); and her three brothers: Edmund Capranica (Rose), Michael J. Capranica, and Pasquale Capranica.
She is survived by her children: daughter, Karen (Chris) Clemons of Springfield; son, Steve (Sharon) Rose of Sherman; grandchildren, Brandon (Jenna), Lauren, and Michael; two great-grandchildren, Beckham and Bennett; sisters-in-law, Romualda Capranica and Norma Capranica; brother-in-law, Jim Rose; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lorine graduated from St. Aloysius in 1954 and Ursuline Academy in 1958. She began her career at American Savings and Loan as a bank teller. She advanced through the organization with responsibilities in teller operations, mortgage lending, accounting, office administration, to assistant secretary treasurer in 1960. Later she was employed by Sun State Savings and Loan located in Phoenix, AZ, as a loan officer. She completed her career with the Illinois Secretary of State, as a manager of the Klein DMV facility, concluding her career with the Illinois Department of CMS.
Lorine was a woman of faith who truly loved her friends and family. She was blessed to have a close relationship with her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins. She enjoyed numerous lifelong friends and classmates from St. Aloysius, Roman Cultural Women’s Auxiliary, and the new friends she met at the Villas in Sherman.
She attended St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Sherman. Lu enjoyed her time reading and visiting people. When speaking with her, she was genuinely listening, always quick with a kind and positive comment. She was never one to complain and would seek ways to help others. Later in life, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow up and teaching them how to make raviolis and pizzelles.
Visitation: 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at Staab Funeral Home – Sherman.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church with Rev. Fredrick Chima Mbiere officiating. A burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
