Lucia M. Midiri, 98, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Villas Senior Care Community West in Sherman. She was born on August 3, 1928, in Springfield, the daughter of Joseph and Frances (Sgro) Madonia. She married, Michael A. Midiri, Sr. on July 29, 1950, and he preceded her in death on June 29, 1991.
She is also preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, John, Andrew, Frank, Sam, and Vincent Madonia; and two sisters, Roe Guarella and Mary Frances Nestler.
She is survived by three sons: Louis Midiri of Petersburg, Joseph (Debbie) Midiri of Springfield and Michael (Shelia) Midiri, Jr. of Springfield; a daughter, Mary (Scott) Davis of Springfield; nine grandchildren, Joel Midiri, Phillip Midiri and Katie VonBehren, Michael Midiri III, Matthew Midiri and Christopher Midiri, Anthony Davis and Zachary Davis, and Francesca Cox; fifteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Josephine (Lawrence) Romang, Nina (Carl) Rothe, Margaret Passeri, Theresa (Thomas) Nicastro and several nieces, nephews and cousins, whom she loved dearly.
Lucia was a lifelong resident of Springfield and a devoted homemaker who took great pride in caring for her family.
She was a co-owner with her husband, Michael, of Community Currency Exchange and A&A Telephone Answering Service. Lucia was a longtime member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. She enjoyed cooking, tending to her flowers, shopping, reading, ceramics and crafts as well as playing BINGO. She especially loved the home she and her husband built together, which became a special place filled with many years of family, love, great food and treasured memories. Lucia adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the time she shared with her family brought her some of her greatest joy.
Visitation: 4:00 – 7:00 pm, Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with a prayer service at 4:00 pm.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at St. Aloysius Church with Reverend Frederick Mbiere officiating. An entombment will follow at Oak Ridge Chapel Mausoleum.
