M. Lucille “Lou” Murphy 101, of Springfield, died at 6:39 pm, Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at The Bridge Care suites surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 4, 1922 in Springfield, to John William and Leta Josephine Gorman Scott. She married David Murphy on August 23, 1980 and he preceded her in death on January 17, 2008.

Survivors include one daughter, Gail Maxeiner of Springfield; one son, LaVearl (Julie) Maxeiner of Springfield; six grandchildren, Stephanie Mueller (Jeffrey), Alexander Maxeiner, Courtney Morgan (Kristen), Kari Maxeiner (Brad), Kenley Cowgill (John) and Melissa (Shane) Speagle; eleven great grandchildren, Megan Plumb, Brayden Murphy, Sydney Murphy, James Morgan, Nash Cowgill, Juni Stepp, Collins Cowgill, Camden Morgan, Kylie Morgan, Brody Morgan and Austin Plumb; three great-great grandchildren, Bjorn and Saxon Richards and Brooks Plumb; one niece, Carol Stevens; one nephew, Bill (Sandy) Scott and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, LaVearl Maxeiner, Sr; second husband, David Murphy; one infant daughter, Lisa Marie; brother, Woody Scott; brother-in-law, Leland Maxeiner; sisters-in-law, Violet Scott, Josephine Maxeiner and Edna Pearcy and nephew-in-law, Don Stephens.

 Lou worked for Sangamo Electric for 6 years; Bechtel Engineering in San Francisco, CA for 4 years; the State of Illinois Department of Public Aid for 7 years and retired from the City of Springfield where she worked as an accountant after 10 years of service. After retirement she worked at Fit Club West until the age of 98.

She was a world traveler and was a member of West Side Christian Church.

Visitation: 5 - 7 pm, Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 12:00 pm, Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Mike Harney officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
