Marguerite “Mickie” A. Culton, 96, of Springfield, passed away at 4:50 am, Friday, February 2, 2024 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital. She was born on August 2, 1927 in Springfield, the daughter of Leonardo and Girolama Montalbano and they preceded her in death. She married Owen M. Culton on March 10, 1967 and he preceded her in death on January 12, 1982.

She is survived by one stepdaughter, Shirley Meinecke of Carlsbad, CA, three step-grandchildren, Steve Hohenstein of Carlsbad, CA, Dianne Bouton of Sammamish, WA and Jeff Hohenstein of Kronenwetter, WI, three step great-grandchildren, Taylor Bouton, Franklin Hohenstein and Fredric Hohenstein and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was a Springfield resident most of her life and was employed at Illinois Bell Telephone Co. Traffic Department for 15 years. She was a member Cathedral of Immaculate Conception Parish and a member of the CCCW for over 50 years. She was also a member of the St. Louise De Marillac Guild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one step-grandson, Michael; two sisters, Mammie Frankell Unser and Ann Montalbano; three brothers, Frank, Anthony and Sam Montalbano and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation: 5 – 7 PM, Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 5:00 pm.

Funeral Mass: 10:00 am, Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Reverend Brian Alford officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 pm at Orendorff Cemetery in Canton, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception or Catholic Charities.
