Mary Ann Vacco Bridges Brammer, 83 of Springfield, passed away at 4:15 am, Friday, January 17, 2025, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. She was born February 11, 1941, in Springfield, the daughter of Norman and Alvena (Langston) Vacco. She married Clarence Edgar Bridges on November 15, 1959, and he preceded her in death on February 5, 1965. She later married James Wesley Brammer in 1970, and he preceded her in death on January 20, 2018.
Also preceding her in death are one grandson, Caleb Bridges, and three sisters, Joyce Vacco, Jeanne Perkinton, and Susan Crouse.
She is survived by three children, Mark (Sandy) Bridges of Virden, Kevin (Anne-Marie) Bridges of Springfield, and Julie Bridges of Springfield; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one sister, Karen (Wayne) Ilsley of Springfield and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mary Ann was an active and devout member of West Side Christian Church. She also had worked at West Side and at FW Means. Mary Ann was famously known as the “Cake Lady” making several beautiful cakes for weddings, her family celebrations, and even President Reagan.
She was an animal lover who did it all, from feeding the squirrels in her backyard to volunteering for the Animal Protective League. She always had a German Shepherd at her side. Mary Ann was a woman of faith who loved Jesus with all her heart. Her greatest legacy is pointing her children and grandchildren to Jesus, calling Him her “Main Man.” She always took advantage of opportunities to encourage others in their faith, passing out scripture and hanging Bible verses around her home. Mary Ann’s favorite Bible verse states, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).
Visitation: 10:00 – 11:30 am, Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Thursday, January 30, 2025 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Cindy Lash officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
