Matthew “Matt” A. Lelys, 34, of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at his home. He was born April 25, 1988, in Springfield, the son of Mark Phillip Lelys and Jennifer Diane (Lusardi) Carlson. He married Amber Whitmore on July 7, 2017 and she survives.
Also surviving are his two children: son, Matthew Allen Lelys, Jr. “MJ” and daughter, Lillian “Lilly” Louann Lelys; mother, Jennifer (Erik) Carlson of South Dakota; brother, Joe (Stephanie) Lelys of Auburn; grandparents, Richard and Diane Lusardi of Springfield; aunt and uncles, Wayne (Jayne) Lusardi, Dan (Gina) Lusardi, Bonnie (Leo) Shoraga, and Michael (Mary Anne) Lelys; mother and father in law, Tonya (Jay) Miller of Missouri and James (Sarah) Hays of Springfield; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wesley Sheridan, Hannah (Ed) Robinson, Damien Carpenter, and Andrew, Alex and Alexis Hays, all of Springfield; nieces and nephews, Alisa, Natalie and Bradley Sheridan, Percy Robinson, and Talynn Lelys; and several cousins.
He is preceded in death by his father, Mark Phillip Lelys; and grandparents Connie and Helgi Lelys.
Matt was a resident of Springfield all his life. He was of the catholic faith. He attended school at St. Cabrini Catholic Grade School, Ursuline Academy and graduated from Lanphier High School. Matt was quite the outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, hogging, hunting, and trapping. Matt had a heart of gold. Always willing to help out a friend or a stranger. He absolutely adored his children and was a wonderful father.
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
A celebration of Matt’s life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in care of Amber Lelys for his two children, MJ and Lilly.
