Michael Arthur Flexsenhar, Sr., 85, of Germantown, TN, formerly of Springfield, IL and Bonita Springs, FL, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family. Michael was born to the late Arthur and Doreen Gesell Flexsenhar on September 4, 1939. He was born and raised in Springfield, IL where he attended Springfield High School and met the love of his life, Janet Ruth Weiskopf. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage and built a beautiful life and family together before her passing in February of 2013.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and granddaughter, Morgan.
Mike is survived by his four children, Michael Jr. and wife Betsy, Mark and wife Laura, Kristine and husband Christopher, Keith and his wife Tami; eight grandchildren, Michael III and wife Diane, Caleb, Brandon, Amanda and husband Tyler, Riley, Abbie, Kyle, and Molly; seven great-grandchildren, Simeon, Gabriel, Lily, Genieve, Gianna, Payton, and Jacob; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mike was a United States Air Force veteran, serving from 1962 – 1966. He was a graduate of Bradley University where he received an engineering degree. Soon after graduation he joined CATERPILLAR in 1965 and worked in various positions, eventually becoming an Executive VP in Mining and Construction Equipment. His positions took him all over the country, from Pacific NW to Lafayette, IN. His time in Lafayette made him a Purdue Boilermaker fan for the rest of his life. He retired from CATERPILLAR in 2001 after 36 years of service.
Upon retirement, he and Janet became residents of Bonita Springs, FL, where they made many great friends. Christian faith was important to them both, wherever they went, but they always considered St. John’s Lutheran Church in Springfield their spiritual home. Mike was an avid golfer, but his church and family time always came before that…at least most days!
