Misty L. Long, a cherished mother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away at the age of 51 on June 29, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. Born on July 1, 1972, in Springfield, Illinois, Misty's vibrant spirit and infectious laughter left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Misty's life was a testament to her capacity for love and her dedication to her family. She married her soulmate, Raymond L. Long, on September 18, 2004, who preceded her in death in 2016. Together, they raised twin sons, Joshua and Jonathan Long, who were the pride and joy of her life. Her father, Frank Seward, and her stepfather, Paul (Cheryl) Sims, will deeply miss her warmth and kindness. Misty's brothers, Joey Sims and Chris Sims, along with her sister, Jody Rentschler, will treasure the memories of the countless moments they shared. Her family extended to include her beloved uncles, Robert (Pamela) Dennison and Joseph (Ann) Felber, Jr.; her aunt, Jeannie Dennis; and her parents-in-law, Arthur "Jack" and Linda Long. Misty also leaves behind her brother-in-law, Jeff (Jennifer) Long; sister-in-law, Beth (Brad) White; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who all felt the impact of her generous spirit.
Misty was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Felber; her brother, Jason Sims; her uncle, William Dennis; and her grandparents, Joseph and Virginia (Staples) Felber.
The legacy of her kind-hearted nature and her passion for life will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A proud graduate of Lanphier High School, Class of 1990, Misty's passion for nurturing and teaching young minds led her to a fulfilling career as a chef and teacher at Little Kings and Queens Children's Academy. Her culinary skills and her ability to connect with children made her a beloved figure among her students and colleagues alike.
Misty's love for Disney was more than a pastime; it was a joyful expression of her personality. She found delight in the enchanting stories and characters, often sharing this magic with her sons and the children she taught. Her neighbors will fondly remember the laughter-filled card games and the companionship she brought to their gatherings. An animal lover at heart, Misty's daily walks with her dogs were a familiar sight in the neighborhood, a routine that reflected her commitment to the creatures she adored.
Her faith was a guiding force in her life, providing her with strength and comfort. Misty's deep belief shaped the way she lived, always striving to spread kindness and compassion to those around her.
As we commemorate Misty's life, we are reminded of the joy she brought into this world. Her unwavering love for her sons, her dedication to her family, and her passion for bringing happiness to others are the hallmarks of a life beautifully lived. Misty's memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her, and her legacy will be cherished forever.
Misty L. Long's life was a journey filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. She will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. As we bid farewell to Misty, we take solace in knowing that her spirit will continue to guide and comfort us in the days to come.
Visitation: 2-5 pm, Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Calvary Church, 501 West Hazel Dell Rd., Springfield, IL.
Funeral Service: 5 pm, Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Calvary Church, 501 West Hazel Dell Rd. with Pastor Mark Johnson and Pastor Paul Rose officiating.
A private family burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.
