Ret. Chief Deputy Anthony “Tony” Sacco, 74, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at his home. He was born October 19, 1949 in Springfield, the son of Fano and Josephine (Giordano) Sacco.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim Sacco.

Survivors include his daughter, Carrie Sacco of Springfield; son, Scott Sacco of Springfield; grandson, Gavin Rogers of Springfield; sister, JoAnn Sacco of Ashland; sister-in-law, Linda Sacco of Gulf Shores, AL; companion, Mary Pickford of Springfield; former spouse, Patricia Folker of Springfield and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Tony was a lifelong, proud resident of Springfield. He graduated from Lanphier High School in 1967 and Western Illinois University. He was of the Catholic faith and was a member of Christ the King Church. He belonged to several organizations including the Knights of Columbus; Fraternal Order of Police, Illinois Police Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Institute For Law Enforcement Education; Sangamon County Law Enforcement Executives and was a Team Commander for DIRT. He Graduated from the FBI Academy in 1994, was a Deputy U.S. Marshall and on the Violent Fugitive Task Force.

Tony was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked at the Sangamon County Sherriff’s Department from 1974-2008.

Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Monday, July 8, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, IL.

Funeral Mass: 12 PM, Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Christ the King Church with Reverend Christopher House officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
