Richard C. Johnson, 75, of Sherman, died Saturday, January 20, 2024. He was born November 2, 1948 in Chicago, to Marvin E. Johnson and Marion (Erickson) Johnson. He married Patricia Whyte in 1971.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; son Steven Johnson and wife Jennifer of Sherman and granddaughters Olivia and Maria. He is also survived by his brother David and wife Ester of Simpson, IL and extended family throughout Illinois and Arkansas.

Richard was a United States Navy veteran. Serving on the USS Ranger during the Vietnam War 1966-1970. He attended Triton College and Shawnee College where he received an Associate Degree. He graduated from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelors Degree in Corrections Management. He worked at the Vienna, Shawnee and Menard Correctional Centers before joining the Illinois State Police Division of Forensic Services. He retired from his position as Forensic Scientist Document Examiner in 2011.

The family will host a casual Celebration of Life reception on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Poe’s on the Hill in Andrew, Illinois from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. All friends and family are invited to attend.
