Rita A. Israel, 81, of Springfield, died at 7:30 am, Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at her residence. She was born July 26, 1942 in Springfield, to Ernest N. and Clara DiGirolamo Serena. She married David R. Israel, and he preceded her in death on April 10, 2014.

Survivors include four children; Drake (Annamarie) Israel of Springfield, Stacy Israel of Springfield, Ryan Israel of Washington, DC and Stephanie (Eric) Israel-McRae of Lexington, GA; four grandsons and their children; David (April) Israel and their children, Drake and Isabella; Andrew (Nicole) Israel and their children, Chloe, Hudson, Ashton and Bennett; Matthew (Rachael) Israel and their son, Henry, and Vincent (Allison) Israel and their daughter, Madelyn; two brothers, Richard L. (Donna) Serena of Springfield and Gerald E. (Violet, deceased), and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Rita worked for several years as a Registered X-Ray Technician for St. John’s Hospital. She also worked as clerical support for District 186.

She was a member of Cherry Hills Church.

She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and staunch supporter of Springfield public schools. Rita was a loving mother and grandmother.

Visitation: 9-11 am, Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Cherry Hills Church.

Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Cherry Hills Church with Pastor Jeff Nelsen officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
