Robert "Bob" C. Guess, 53, of Athens, IL, passed away on October 21, 2024. Born in Joliet, IL, on December 3, 1970, to Robert K. Guess and Barbara Van Yperen. Bob lived a life characterized by passion, adventure, and a wonderful sense of humor. After a courageous battle with colon cancer, he passed away in Springfield, IL, surrounded by family and friends.

Bob grew up in the Joliet area and was a proud graduate of Lincoln-Way High School in New Lenox, IL. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. His parents, Robert (Salli) Guess and Barbara (George, deceased) Altenhoff; significant other, Pam J. Jackson; children, Taylor M. Guess and Bryce R. Guess, along with his siblings: Barb (Ron) Greenfield, Jaymi (Christopher) Gleason, Bill (Mary Richards) Guess, Rich (Heidi) Holm, Michelle (Joe) Martorano, and Michael (Kerry) Holm—will ensure Bob’s memory continues to serve as a beacon of joy and laughter.

Bob's journey was deeply interwoven with his love for racing, which included him working for Hoosier Tire Midwest with his dedication and exceptional work ethic. Bob's expertise and enthusiasm took him to countless races across the country, where he worked as a crew chief for several top race teams. His presence became synonymous with the sport he loved. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become a co-owner of FRFR (Fatt Right Foot Racing).

An avid sports fan, Bob’s enthusiasm for college basketball, especially his beloved UNC, was infectious. He also reveled in the excitement of football, cheering on the Chargers. Bob's adventurous spirit found solace in travel, with treasured trips to John’s Pass in Madeira Beach, FL, and picturesque Caribbean cruises.

Bob's infectious laughter and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed by his family, including several aunts and uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as his three beloved dogs, Indy, Dega, and Enzo.

Known for lighting up any room, Bob has left an indelible impression on our hearts. He lived life to the fullest with each laugh, adventure, and tireless effort on the racetrack. His spirit, a unique blend of humor and heart, will be remembered fondly by everyone whose lives he touched. Heaven has gained a passionate soul, and down here, his cherished memory will race on in our hearts forever.

Cremation will be arranged by Staab Funeral Home – Sherman.

A Celebration of Bob’s Life will take place on December 7th in the Springfield area with details to be shared later.
