Roger W. Freeman, 88, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 23, 1935, in Dawson, the son of George William and Fallis Opal (Garlits) Freeman. He married Diane Davis on April 22, 1983, and she survives.

Also surviving are his son, Chris Freeman of New Orleans, LA; sister, Connie Peavy of Dawson; brother, Willis Curtman Freeman of Dawson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott Freeman; two brothers, Clell H. and Horace J. Freeman; and two sisters, Georgia V. Hollenbeck and Judith Hulett.

Roger was a 1953 Tri-City High School graduate. In his youth, he enjoyed building model airplanes and riding motorcycles all across town. Over the years, he also demonstrated his skill as a carpenter, constructing several homes. Professionally, he spent over 25 years as a technician at Xerox, serving clients across Central IL.

Additionally, Roger proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army from 1958 - 1960.

Visitation: 10:00 – 11:30 am, Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Troy Easley officiating. A burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
