Shirley T. Gipson, 84, of Springfield, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Centennial Pointe Senior Living in Springfield. She was born on June 16, 1941, in Kettle, Kentucky, the daughter of Ralph and Pauline Crawford Roach. She married George Remy Dumonceaux, Jr. on October 16, 1981, and he preceded her in death on November 29, 1989. She later married Gerald D. Gipson, and he preceded her in death on January 29, 2001.
Shirley is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn (Joseph) Sullivan, Lorie Holmes (AJ Woodson) both of Springfield, and one son, Larry (Lisa) Riley of Rochester; five grandchildren, Keith Covington, Clinton (Marylu) Holmes, Paige (Courtney) Richmond, Jared Riley (Fiancé Lillian Coady), and Jordan (Trey) Knighton; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Carolyn (Ronnie) Thomas of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Shelva Jean Long of Tennessee.
In addition to her two husbands George, and Gerald, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Stanley Roach, Carl Roach, James Roach, and Ralph Roach, Jr.; and one sister, Anna Faye Hicks.
Shirley was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and bowler. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Eagles Club. She enjoyed watching her cardinal birds and was devoted to her family.
She worked at St. John’s Hospital for over thirty-three years, retiring as a patient transport assistant.
Memorial Gathering: 9:00 am – 10:00 am, Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Memorial Ceremony: 10:00 am, Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
