Susan M. Ramm 80, of Springfield, died at 6:35 pm, Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Regency Care. She was born July 26, 1943 in St. Louis, MO to Jacob and Genevieve (nee Ehrhard) Bohn. She married Arthur H. Ramm on May 23, 1964 and he preceded her in death on August 19, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Jim Bohn, and one sister-in-law, Kathleen Bohn.

Survivors include two sons, Michael (Jennifer) Ramm and Andrew Ramm, both of Springfield; one brother, Jeff Bohn of St. Charles, MO; one sister-in-law, Sandy Bohn of St. Louis, MO; one nephew, Rob (Lisa) Bohn; three nieces, Beth (Kurt) Miller, Kristin (Ben) Chrisman and Allison (Dan) Kienitz and their families.

Susan retired in December of 2001 from Lincoln Land Community College after 23 years of service. Susan started in career counseling at LLCC and was located at the top of the Ramp. While being a nontraditional student with a family at home, she earned her Associates degree from LLCC, and her Bachelors and Masters degrees from UIS. With these degrees, her roles at LLCC grew to include academic advising, counseling, and the Women’s Center.

Everyone who met Susan was aware of her deep concern for people, her tremendous compassion, and her strong desire to help out in any way she could. Her Masters Degree in counseling was such a perfect fit for these reasons and explains why the phrases “such a wonderful person” and “gem of a human being” have recently been spoken.

People, whether family, friends or acquaintances, were her greatest joy.

Susan and Art both enjoyed traveling and took many a cruise in the Caribbean together (sometimes taking two cruises in a year). After Art’s passing, she continued to travel – Egypt, Spain, Italy, and Ireland were some of her favorite trips.

Susan was a remarkable, though humble, cook. Her pies will assuredly be missed by many. She had a fondness for ice cream and chocolate. She was never observed to say no to a piece of Pease’s Candy. Raggedy Annes and turtles in particular brought her great happiness.

Susan enjoyed flipping through the newspaper and her People magazine. In the newspaper, she would light up every time she saw LLCC mentioned in an article or ad. While looking though her People magazine, she would frequently laugh at the “silly” fashions that some people wore and would say “No” when pointing to others. One trend that did emerge was the peculiar habit of spending larger amounts of time on certain pages. After a while it was noted that these pages had pictures of Sam Elliott, Hugh Jackman, or Tom Selleck.

Susan will be greatly missed by many people.
