Thomas “Tom” A. Spada, 77, of Springfield, IL passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Springfield Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 29, 1946 in Chicago Heights to Hugo and Anne Laurie Spada. He married Suzann Cordes on March 28, 1992 and she survives.
Also surviving Tom are his two daughters, Ellen (Red) Siler and Colleen (Rick) Laga, both of Rochester; three grandchildren, Mikayla Siler, Christopher Siler, and Adrianna Robben; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, James Spada.
Tom grew up in Steger, IL and graduated from Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He went on to obtain his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in Champaign.
Tom eventually moved back to the Chicago area and worked at many hospitals as a medical technologist. He then moved to the Springfield area and worked as an auditor for the IL Department of Revenue, retiring in 2009.
He was an active member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 534 serving as treasurer for over 20 years. He was also a member of VFW Post 10302, American Legion 32 and a member of Rochester United Methodist Church.
Though he was very active in veterans’ organizations, his favorite time was with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved cheering on his favorite Chicago teams, the Bears and the White Sox.
Visitation: 10:30 – 12:30 PM, Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Funeral Service: 12:30 PM, Tuesday May 21, 2024 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. A burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors being conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
