Thomas W. Wente, 54 of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Springfield Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 2, 1969 in Springfield, to William D. and Jo Ann Petrella Wente.

Survivors include his mother, Jo Ann of Springfield; two sisters, Carolyn Zink and Marie (John) Bukovic, both of Springfield; four aunts, Pat Kuhns, Alice Fisher, June Call and Rachel Wente; two uncles, Don Petrella and Richard Petrella; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father; nephew, Billy Douglas and several other beloved family members.

Thomas was of the Catholic Faith and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Springfield. He worked for many years at St. John’s Hospital. He was the author of the book, “2112: Nuclear Holocaust”. He was a volunteer for the Animal Protective League; a fierce Chicago Cubs Fan; dog lover and a member of Knights of Columbus #364.

Visitation: 3:00 – 6:00 pm, Monday, November 6, 2023 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. A prayer service will be held at 3:00 pm. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation.

Memorial Mass: 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Very Reverend Christopher House officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness – Illinois (NAMI) or to the Animal Protective League.
