Walter “Dale” Shoemaker, Sr., 71, of Springfield, died at 11:25 am, Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at The Bridge Care Suites. He was born July 4, 1951 in Springfield to Frank and Esther Arnold Shoemaker. He married Connie Case on September 29, 2012 and she survives.

Also surviving are four children; Walter “Dale” (Angela) Shoemaker, Jr. of Divernon, Bobby Jo (Joe) Martin, Mary (Todd) Robinson and Michael (Synimin) Shoemaker all of Springfield; twelve grandchildren, Andrew (Kelsey) Robinson, Jacob Robinson, Ian Robinson, Joseph (Abigail) Martin, Isaiah Martin, Parker and Trenton Shoemaker, Sierra, Destiny, Dylan, Brendyn, and Joshua Garlo; one great grandson, Brayden Robinson and one great granddaughter, Lily Behl; several step brothers and sisters and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step sister, Mary June Garvin.

Dale was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of Sacred Heart Church. He was employed by the State Journal-Register for 22 years in transportation and logistics.

Visitation: 2:00-4:00 pm, Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield.

Funeral Service: 10:00 am, Monday, October 31, 2022 at Staab Funeral Home-Springfield. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
