Wes A. Fletcher, 69, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away on September 24, 2026, in Springfield. He was born on April 2, 1957, in Hannibal, Missouri, and lived a life marked by kindness, selflessness, and devotion to the people and things he loved.
Wes was a graduate of Lanphier High School and carried the values of hard work and loyalty with him throughout his life. He retired from Shop N' Save/County Market on Dirksen Parkway after more than 30 years of dedicated service. Through the years, he became known as a dependable worker and a familiar, friendly face to many. He took pride in doing his job well and in the relationships he built along the way.
Family was at the center of Wes’s life. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Suddarth Fletcher, whom he married on June 21, 2019. He also leaves behind his son, Daniel; his stepdaughter, Rayna Meredith; his stepson Gregory Shane Meredith; several grandchildren and step great grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and step great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Fletcher; his brothers, John (Patty) Fletcher, and Dennis (Debbie) Fletcher; his brother-in-law, Gregory “Cardinal” Suddarth; his sisters-in-law, Ann Webb and her husband, Ed, and Betsy Graham and her husband, Jeff; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Wes valued his family deeply and was happiest when surrounded by those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Scott McDonald; one sister, Paulette Hinsey; two sisters-in-law, Susan Washburn and Mary Goby and brother-in-law, Richard Goby.
Wes had a number of interests that brought him joy throughout his life. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed following Illini basketball and watching both sports on TV with his Busch beer. He was also very tech savvy and liked working on his truck. Whether he was keeping up with the latest technology or spending time under the hood, he enjoyed activities that allowed him to stay engaged and hands-on. His interests reflected his practical nature and his curiosity about the world around him.
Those who knew Wes will remember him as a kind and selfless man who cared about others in quiet but meaningful ways. He had a steady presence, a generous spirit, and a way of making people feel appreciated. His life was a testament to the importance of family, hard work, and simple joys. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his memory will remain a lasting comfort to those who loved him.
The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date.
