William “Bill” E. Tarr, Jr., 89, of Springfield, passed away at 10:50 pm, Friday, May 17, 2024 at Country Lane Memory Care in Riverton. He was born September 3, 1934 in Springfield, the son of William E. and Edna (Thompson) Tarr, Sr. He married Sharon L. Smith on May 5, 1956 and she survives.

Also surviving are his two children, Cari (Bill) Tarr Kessler of Joplin, MO and Jeff Tarr of Springfield, IL; three grandchildren, Kate (Craig) Kessler Gurley of Springfield, MO, William (Morgan) Kessler of Wheat Ridge, CO, and Sarah (Lee) Kessler Barr of McMinnville, OR; three great grandchildren, Liam, Malachi, and Mya; one brother, Ronald (Janet) Tarr of Athens, IL and one nephew, Todd Tarr of Pawnee, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ralph Tarr.

Bill was a lifetime resident of Springfield and was a United States Army veteran serving from 1957-1959.

He retired from Illinois Bell/Ameritech after 42 years of service and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). Bill was a member of the Sangamon County Telephone Pioneers and Model “A” Ford Club. He also had a passion for antique cars.

Graveside Service: 11 am, Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Pastor Jonathan Sharp officiating. Military honors will be conducted.
