William “Bill” Gleason, 74 of Cantrall, passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born October 3, 1949 in Springfield, the son of William and Harriett (Drennan) Gleason. He married Linda Diss on December 28, 1973 and just celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Also surviving are his son and daughter in law, Jason and Malerie Gleason of St.Croix, USVI; stepdaughter, Jennifer Thorpe of Duluth, MN; five grandchildren, Cameron Daly, Ian Thorpe, Collin Thorpe, Kaeden Gleason, and Teague Gleason; three sisters, Carolyn (Kevin) Kikendall of Decatur, Dara (Tom) Imlay of Missouri, and Dawn Pitchford of Springfield; niece, Amy Putnam of Petersburg and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Michael Gleason.

He graduated from Springfield High School, Class of 1967 and has been a resident of Cantrall for 25 years. Bill retired from the State of Illinois, Department of Child and Family Services after over 30 years of service as a Systems Analyst.

Bill was an avid gardener and loved being outdoors. He was a volunteer little league coach and a Swimming Timing Official for many years. He had a lifelong love of music and traveling with his family. Bill loved spending time with his family and sharing meals together, often from his grill.


The family will be hosting a Celebration of Bill’s Life in the summer of 2024.
